Rocket League should take a lesson from the Smash Community
In a lot of ways, Rocket League and Smash are very similar: high skill ceiling, high precision. The Smash community uses custom cut notches to great effect, and modded controllers are widely adopted in the competitive scene.
The Case for Notches in Rocket League
In Rocket League, moves like Speed Flips, Stalls, Half-Flips, and Flip-cancel shots are extremely susceptible to 1-2° errors in joystick position. For example, when you miss, a stall becomes a backflip.
By using notches, we can entirely eliminate this class of mistakes, leading to higher level gameplay.
